  • Generation Kill and The Wire are two of the greatest masterpieces ever committed to television. Simon is the best writer for television, and one of the best writers period, to have ever lived. A tremendous talent with an uncompromising attitude towards his art.

  • David Simon, a great American storyteller. Although The Wire never won a single Emmy or captured a large audience, it formed the basis of a history class at Harvard. The MacArthur Fellowship is well deserved.
