People often remark to me that it must be hard giving up the birds that we work with at our parrot rescue, especially those who we have poured a lot of love and effort into. Naturally, it is hard to give many of them up, even if there is a promise of a better life waiting for them. Many of our birds I know will be in my heart forever. When this video was taken Dec 2011, it was time for me to say goodbye to a very special congo african grey named Tulip, whom we have worked very hard to rehabilitate since her arrival about a year ago. Tulip worked her way so deeply into my heart that it took everything in my being to talk myself out of keeping her and saying goodbye as she prepared to go to her new home was very hard. I chose to post a video that my husband recorded of me saying goodbye to Tulip because it is not very often one sees this side of a rescuers duty as he or she may try to say goodbye in private moments alone, before the animal is adopted. Tulip will be very spoiled and she will have a wonderful life with her new family, this I know. I just hope and pray she comes to love them as much as she has come to love me. Please excuse the tears - I didn't realize I was being filmed until it became more obvious that my husband wasn't just tinkering with his smart phone!

  • U are good person! u have a very high soul!!

  • omg look at her eyes... she knows :( i can tell that she loves you so much. i never thought a parrot video would make me cry like this </3

  • Very glad people like you exist. When you really love an animal you do the right thing for them not for yourself. Its 12yrs today that I put my Sherri an amazing loving 7yr old border collie to sleep after a sudden seizure. I didnt expect it. I had no money to keep her alive for maybe a year more. If I had the money I dont know if I would have. You dont put friends thru pain.

  • This is pure love, I started crying while watching this video, I can't imagine to say good bye to my grey :(

Love you Tulip, and don't be sad, I believe mummy will remain in contact with you

  • this is heartbreaking to the point that tulip looked just as sad as you to be leaving. You do amazing work with them and the love you poor into them doesnt go unappreciated by THEM. <3

  • this is love.

  • Thats so sad. your brave to do all you do only to have to let them go :(

  • ahh now Im crying! This is very bittersweet. Im sure you will also be in Tulip's little heart forever.

I wish Tulip the best in his new home :)
