This is the opening to the Channel 10 News (or TV-10 News as it was called on the video) from Saturday, April 26, 1980. Terry Ruggles was the lead anchor alongside Sportcaster "Big Al" Meltzer.

Note: This news opening music is a lot different than the WBBM-TV & KNXT (KCBS)-TV Channel 2 News music ("I Love Chicago, Chicago My Home" by Richard "Dick" Marx) and the WCBS-TV Channel 2 News 1978-82 music.

  • Is that John Facenda???

  • No it is not. John Facenda retired in early 1973. I have just mentioned in this clip that alongside Ruggles is sportscaster Al Meltzer. Do you honestly think that Facenda would be at a news desk after 1973 (beside hosting specials and current affair programs on Channel 10) ?

  • Too short of a clip. Of course its Terry Ruggles as his name is displayed during the clip.

  • I'm sorry, but is the only one I got. I don't have any earlier ones. Not even with Larry Kane.

  • From looking around the web, it appears WCAU's studio cameras as of 1980 were Thomson-CSF TTV-1518, which was also used by KNXT (now KCBS-TV) Los Angeles and WBBM-TV Chicago. Can't say as to KMOX-TV (now KMOV) St. Louis, but WCBS-TV New York in '80 was phasing out their Norelco PC-70's in favor of Hitachi SK-110's.

  • This was from the "Looking Good" era of CBS.

  • @jhshifris1 Richard's Dad was what I meant to type in.

Geez, I hate screwing up on comments.

  • @stevieboy247 Richard Marx has kids? No, Dick would've been his father.

  • @sickandtiredofmorons What show??? What are you talking about?

  • @sickandtiredofmorons Hey! Watch you mouth, boy.

  • @Julius121081 If you are going to post, at least use proper grammar. How long did that show lasted? What? Fuck off troll.

  • Can anyone apprise as to what color studio camera WCAU was using as of 1980 (as seen in the 0:23 - 0:26 mark)? I know it wasn't either the Ikegami HK-312C or Hitachi SK-110 . . . and the Thomson-CSF TTV-1525C can be ruled out as well . . .

  • @stevieboy247 Actually, that package was used a few years later. The music package as heard on this intro can also be found @ watch?v=O2v6Wy59t68 on the CED stereo demo. My personal fave from that suite would have to be the WCAU Late Show theme.
