One minute a fat pigeon sitting on out lawn eating food scraps, next thing it's the Sparrow Hawks dinner..... No sound as it was taken through a window.

  • good vid, obviously knew you were watchin but great that you got camcorder on quick to film

  • @puffernutterlou Thanks Lou, Happy New year and good to hear from you again..

It was actually about 5 minutes from the hawk getting the pigeon until I saw it and got the camera out.

  • Nice video Ralph, I managed to see a similar thing a couple of years ago at the in laws house through the kitchen window. I was only about 4 foot away so could see everything, very gruesome but a way of life! The pigeon did put up a fight for about 15/20 minutes too but it wasn't enough in the end.

  • @Shoddy127 Thanks, although it's only the second I have managed to get a bit of footage of, we regularly see piles of pigeon feathers either in the paddock next door, the drive or on the verges of out lane. This Sparrow Hawk certainly is doing it's best to keep the population under control.

  • how about that, last winter a flock of wax wings devoured all the berries of my rowan tree, got a video of it stuck on my old hard drive, its great to catch the wild life on video, nice one Ralph, cheers

  • @noelist Thanks Leon, makes a change from steam.

  • @khankadet Fortunately we have only ever see that one with pigeons, there are plenty around so I guess it does not bother with small stuff, the only thing that would annoy me was if it took one of the small female pheasants that feed in our garden...

  • @robmasterman Well we did get a bang on the window first as the pigeon bashed into it trying to escape.

  • Need more Sparrow Hawks Ralph. Good video. I've got a couple similar somewhere but one victim was a blackbird so not so good. Chris

  • What an excellent catch Ralph....Right place at the right time....Bob
