all you can say about this song is wow speaks to everyone who has ever loved or has learned what the oppisite sex wants from you all i can say is that this song speaks also so deeply to the soul of the human being have heard all three versions not a bad one in the mix rip buddy, waylon, and all other who have been taken from us long before they had reached there prime
That Mark can really add something to a tune. I think Buddy would approve. FYI another great song by Mark is a duet with Chet Atkins backing the Everly Brothers on the Dire Straits classic "Why Worry." Give it a listen.
Great version of a classic. My friend Larry Welborn, played bass on That'll be the Day. He told me Buddy had written another verse for this song and changed some words. He told me it was Buddy's habit to record a verse and chorus of a song after he had the idea. Such was this song. The only time Learning the game was to be sung was as the last line of the song. Other lines ended with "Part of the Game" "Start of the Game" and "Heart of the Game." It is a beautiful song in its simplicity.
@ocduff Like all songs with good lyrics this song has an unlimited number of ways to interpret the meaning. That is why it is very important to stick with the original lyrics. Don't add or take away one word unless you intend for the song to be of a personal nature.

Spectacular guitar, just breathtaking rendition.
Natalie Merchant just sang this on Peter Asher's tribute album.
Same pace.
Brilliant
