And finally:
I understand some people want and NEED this to be a story about platonic, straight friends for it to fit within their world view, but no amount of rationalizing changes the intention of the author, director, and actors. Straight women do not caress each other. This is a story about two women who are IN LOVE. Not just BFFs. If you need a platonic best friends movie, I suggest "Beaches".

I always thought Idgie and Ruth's feelings for one another were so deep, there was no need to label it as a lesbian love affair. These two women were everything to each other: sisters, best friends and spiritual soul mates. It was not necessary to show them having sex to experience the depth and passion of their relationship...

Love this movie so much... Ruth reminds me of my best friend, and she says I'm Idgie. <3 I always wanna call her and make sure she's okay when I watch the end of this movie. :)

I really really wanted the movie to include the scene where Idgie freaks out when she finds out Ruth is going back to Georgia to marry Frank Bennett and breaks everything in her room, lol.

Dont read something into what is not there but always read between the lines!

@babaradio bravo. i watched this movie when i was very young and i didn't really realize it was a story about romantic love, but i watch it now that i'm older and i wonder how i could've missed it. it is beautiful. there is something otherworldly about love between two women.

@babaradio I so agree with you,two women with an unspoken love and understanding x

@applemoon237 Why not? They did it with Cher - lol. (referring to the mascot bit) The reason why there's respect for it is because of the book. It was one of the first lesbian storylines - and certainly the first one the author ever wrote. But I'd like to remind everyone that the author made this book to get something out she had been holding in but intended it so all people could relate to it. Personally my favorite part of this movie/story is not the friendship but "Towanda" and her growth.
You don't have a aprt 1? Cuz I like the one where they are throwing food from the train to the people in the camps.
