I have a funny feeling that the federal government is trying to tell railroads (both freight and passenger) what to do. We need to write to our congress people and tell them to stop telling us what to do. We railfans don't like to have our rights to filming cabrides taken away. Even our buddies at Pentrex has some assignments in filming cabrides. All the feds wants to do is to kill the beauty of railfaning.

I asked Amtrak in a nice manner about filming a cab ride from Maplewood to Kirkwood in an Amtrak P42 and they told me that nobody but Amtrak crew is allowed in the cab for insurance reasons, but also because of 9/11, they prohibit photography and videography! The Missouri River Runner has only a few cars behind the locomotive. I am a huge fan of cabride videos, but I hope you got permission to film in the locomotive.

Cool! Thanks for sharing! I have never been on the Empire Builder, but now at least I know!

@railgeek404 ur Mean! LOL

My question is what type of bug was that splattered on the windshield? I wish you would use a less distracting background when posting your bug splatter videos. Slightly sharper focus of the bug splatter would also be nice.

the p42's a beautiful thing. that k5la is magical and so is every little noise down to the compressor winding up
-
@yftftyfffy that is my favorite noise dude
-
Can't go faster than that. Trains here should do the same speed as in France
-
I always wanted to have a cab ride on that :)
Do the P42DC's have in cab signaling, or does the engineer have to manually look for them.
TallNBlack 1 year ago
@TallNBlack It has been a couple of years, but as I recall the engineer had to read trackside signals all the way. Those locomotives may have in-cab signaling on other routes.

Was that the Cascade tunnel at the end
Canesfan7012 1 year ago
@Canesfan7012 No, it was the Flathead tunnel, 7 miles in the dark.

That "No Defects" alarm warning...is that on the train or a sensor on the tracks?
BeeRich33 1 year ago
@BeeRich33 That is a sensor on the tracks that detects overheating bearings and perhaps some other stuff. It radios the verbal message right after the train passes. We we getting these messages constantly. They must have them stationed every 10 miles or even more frequently.
