For people who have the 2012 edition:
Just drag the photo onto the plane, no need for changing opactiy, etc
There is no "smooth and highlights" instead, click on "Wireframe" and then click on "Consistent Colours"
pliz like so others can see this =3

Aaa hey thank you xINFINITY I really needed your tutorials mmm...there's that thing when I try to freeze the selection it removes the picture there's only the plane but when I unfreeze it, it appears again Oh and I use 2012 thanks!

@Xanaficated Glad it helped bud - select your object then go into the DIsplay tab on the right, deselect the tickbox that says "Show frozen in grey" good luck modelling =D

@Eddievedda1 Thanks man hope you consider making a 2012 Max tutorial, that will help me even more and I'm sure it'll help others as well and yeah one more question,How can I disable that horizontal scale thing that you based the Plane on like in part 2 the one that appears when you first open the program or start a new project.Sorry I sound stupid and unprofessional that's bec. it's the first time I use such a program and I've got no one to teach me and it's tutorials weren't really useful to me.

@Xanaficated Cheers :D you want to remove the grid? Select the viewport you dont want the grid in, then press G on the keyboard. yea it takes ages to learn all the hoykeys, they have a load of 3ds max stickers, on an online auction site whos name is filtered on here, where you can stick them onto your keyboard keys and they say what the 3ds max shortcut is :P quite useful actually.
Good luck

Just a question, when you want to model a character with an armor.. do you have to model the character and the armor separately or you model it as one?

@GrizzlyThorn As one object is easiest to rig and skin for animation. If its just for display as a static model, probably separately will give you better results. :)
