Belly dancer Ruric-Amari once again displays her immense range of grace and improvisational skills as she interprets a piano solo by Steve Roberts of Ut Gret at the Jazz Factory in Louisville, Kentucky.
If it is indeed so, that "Music begins to atrophy when it departs too far from the dance" (Pound)...then I am most thankful that Steve Roberts and Ruric Amari have not forgotten this wisdom . Otherwise we wouldn't get to witness moments of pure light like these.
Steve's lovely 'taqusim' on a most untraditional instrument and Ruric's restrained and lovely veil response get 5 stars out of 5 from me. To quote Jaleela Saheem: "A taqusim...is a musician's improvisational solo...It is the dancer's job to use her body to make a visual presentation of that instrument and the emotion the musician is trying to create...Do not over dance the music...the taqusim is a time to dance with feeling and to be unhurried." Is that a smile from Steve at the end?
Wonderful.. !!!I often dance to jazz and classical.. so nice to see this!

wow! Ruric, this is really eyecatching and a totally greater level of beautiful. I wish I saw it live.
Really very moving music...and you danced really "feeling it" and just made the music more and more beautiful.

I can actually say I've seen her perform before, I think she did a turkish number and it was just as lovely as this one. Very talented. :)
