I actually got lucky and was able to hide behind the crates, and essentially reach between them to pick the lock of the chest. it's quite tricky getting in the just right position to do it. Didn't feel like waiting around.

if you watch them fight you can get your hand to hand skill up same with watching the blades train you can get blade and block up by 2.
