This was my first cruise that I took back in 1985 from the Port Of Miami. One thing that I can remember clearly the food and service was uncomparable to today cruise ships. They would go into your room constantly making sure everything was in order.
Thanks for posting this. I met my first love on this ship on my senior cruise the week after after graduation from high school in May/June, 1994. My classmates (and my first love) had a great time, and it remains one of the greatest trips I will ever take in my lifetime. Not only does Britanis have an illustrious place in history, it has one in my life as well. As they said in "Titanic", for me, it really was a "ship of dreams." Thanks for the memories, Britanis...
Sailed on her in '91. Myself and a kid from Liverpool explored every bit we could set foot on one night en route to Nassau, crew only areas not excluded! Was admitted to the bridge, and watched as captain and pilot swung her around in the Port of Miami using her twin screws, no tugs. Heard the whistle blow five blasts on the way back in to Miami early a.m. and ran up on deck just in time to watch a sailboat bounce off the starboard side. Panagiosaki was captain's name, I think.
Great video...my father was one of the 1600 Canadian soldiers rescued by the Britanis (known then as the SS Monterey) in 1943 in the Mediterranean, when the SS. Santa Elena sunk. Guess it played a significant role...in my life...although never was on it. Nice story !
My husband and I met on the Britanis while we were working on board. She was a wonderful lady with a brilliant history and full of character. We miss her and remember her with much love. She is at rest now at the bottom of the ocean, still a gracious lady...
I travelled aboard Britanis as an 11 year old lad back in 1972 from Melbourne to Southhampton with my Family. What treasured memories i have of that time on that beautiful ship! The Greek staff onboard were wonderful hosts and i'm sure that added to what made the trip all the more memorable for me.Thankyou for posting the video.

That was the first cruise I went on in 1994. I was only 14 years old at the time. I heard she eventually sunk. R.I.P. Britanis

I worked on the SS Britanis Nov 1987-April 1988. Sad but I am thankful for the times and memories I had with her.
