  • This song is so great and so sad, finally realising that was it and a lot of the characters you had played as had died. :(

  • @eltaire No worries, bro. I just prefer instruments only in my video game BGM. I like voice samples but only when it's used as an instrument like in Esper Battle in FF12.

  • @Galvanizer67 Since discovering Shoji Meguro's work, I have taken a liking to tracks with vocals mixed in, so thus my liking for "The Sunleth Waterscape". Not saying that pure instrumental isn't as great, or as powerful, because I believe that this is also the case. I just like both types. :D

  • @eltaire I hated "The Sunleth Waterscape". That's a prime example of how Hamauzu used way too much voice samples in the OST. Some of the best video game music is where the instruments are the ones doing the talking.

My fave tracks in FF13 are "Saber's Edge", "Lake Bresha", "Hanging Edge", "Eidolons" and "Can't catch a break". Those were all great and I really didn't like the ones with singing apart from "Gapra Whitewood"

  • @Galvanizer67 I actually found that all the tracks played within Final Fantasy XIII were appropriate (for the most part) for the scenes to which they were designed (excusing the example you mentioned).

I really like the theme and style that Hamauzu went for with his compostion for Final Fantasy XIII and wouldn't have the tracks any other way. "The Sunleth Waterscape" and "Will to Fight" are two of my favourite all time Final Fantasy tracks. :D

  • @eltaire I disagree. There were loads of places where tunes like this could have played in FF13. Hamauzu just used too much voice samples in the FF13 OST.

Remember that cheerful piano tune that played when Hope was riding that mechanical machine at night in the Vile Peaks? That was a bad place to play such a cheerful and uplifting piano rhythm, IMO. The FF13 OST was good but Hamauzu's signature style was sorely missing.

  • @Galvanizer67 I actually didn't mind the Final Fantasy XIII sound track. In fact, there are some REALLY good tracks there.

I guess light hearted piano tunes really didn't fit the theme of FFXIII though, as it had more of a darker feel than the lighter natured SaGa Frontier 2.

  • @eltaire I wish he put more music like this in his OST for FF13.

  • @Galvanizer67 Oh, mine too! I totally adore the piano tunes in this game. Masahashi Hamauzu did an amazing job with the score for this game. <3
