@yorksteam Wow, I've just realised I've come to this video twice, seen your comment, and replied both times. I'd completely forgotten I'd replied the first time. Huge apologies. Obviously I'm just a glutton for punishment ;-)
She's obviously not in good enough condition if she's unsteamable. I'm a strong believer that what makes her, and other machines of her era, special is the life, sound, sight, and smell. Her authenticity is in those aspects, not her material fabric. Yes she looks nice and shiny in the NRM, as I see her there every other day while I research upstairs, but I would much rather see her overhauled (note..not restored..there's a difference) and running. I hope they relent for her 100th anniversary.
@60037 The driver apparently reckoned if it hadn't been for the speed restrictions they would have hit 130mph. Even so, seeing her go through a station at 126mph must have been bloody frightening!
If only they could get her onto the mainline again even if it was for just one run, an anniversary kind of thing, it would be great to see her in her element instead of in a museum, Steam engines now are becoming more and more popular with the youth aswell with the steam excursions we have, the amount of youths you see taking photos & getting videos!! Bring her back !!!
@edj66 if they were in the archives then Bittern would have been completed much quicker.

How would it ruin it? From what perspective I mean? It's obviously not in a good condition internally, because it isn't steamable.
