Mold making process using a seamless glove mold made with Platsil Gel-10. This is a great process for molding simple figure sculpts or portrait busts. Gel-10 is stretchy enough to pull inside out over some basic forms. The finished mold may be used for resin casting, plaster casting, or hydrostone casting.

@brickintheyard thanks for making that clear, I haven't used Gel-10 and didn't know it's properties. It would be risky to pour 'lead' into a mold that couldn't take the heat :)

@510UNSTOPABLE Just depends on the configuration of the mold and how thick you make the rubber. For something that large you might want to use a soft urethane like 74-20 esp if you are going to pour concrete.

@julzabro Today (02/26/11) I made a Plat-Sil 10 silicone mold on a small scrap of UNBAKED SuperSculpey clay and it cured properly. It was a little slow because it was still cool here in Atlanta (~58*F).
I did -not- use a mold release spray (e.g., Poly Ease 2500) because I didn't want the release agent to affect future use of the clay. One drawback: After de-molding, small bits of clay remained attached to my mold, but I just brushed them out. A casting using the mold would complete the test.

can i use this process to make mould for lead toy soldiers?
saied49 10 months ago
@saied49 I have not tried this process over a lead positive but I don't see why it would not work.
brickintheyard 10 months ago
@brickintheyard to cast 'lead' you would need a high temperature resistant silicone. Also you need to design the mold to have a large space above it so the weight of the metal forces it's way down. I'm not sure if Gel10 would cope with the temperature
Dach101 3 months ago
@Dach101 I would not cast lead INTO a Gel-10 mold, but I would use Gel-10 to MOLD a lead figure. Not sure if that was made clear by the question or the answer.
