These fascinating interviews four southwestern women, men healers cross three cultures-Native American, Hispanic, and Western. Their stories-how they came to be healers,
yo miro a las piedras y parece que me hablan.. y cuando me hablan, yo los llevo, limpo y los pongo en la canasta.... I think this is the first time I've seen accupunture and a barrida applied at once.
Interesting. Curanderas/Curanderos were employed in place of medical professionals who were non-existant in the frontier communities of NM. In northern NM the strong herbs and roots found in the highcountry and mountainsides played an important role in medicinal curings. The removal of witchcraft and socery was a whole unique and specialized expertise only practiced by those recieving the speical gift of "Don/Dona". Thank you for keeping the tradtion of curanderismo. Muchas Gracias.
I was always told by my mother that I should have been under the guidance of a curandera to learn what I am capable of doing. I have native american blood in my ancestry and curanderos both good andbad in my family. I am still wondering if after all these years I would still be able to study under someone.
