Hearing on Iraqi Corruption: Waxman's Opening

The Oversight Committee holds a hearing, "Assessing the State of Iraqi Corruption." The hearing is to evaluate the status of corruption in the Iraqi government and whether U.S. government efforts to address this continuing problem have been adequate. Chairman Henry Waxman gives opening remarks.

Why do people praise a War Criminal? She still funds a criminal enterprise like Iraq yet says discussions of Impeaching the original crime lords is off the table. She can stop funding the war just as EASILY.

Hope it will help in internal reconciliation, counter insurgency and will let Iraqis take step towards independence of govt and to stabilize at own pace and inertia.

Keep tighter security for 6 Months to allow cooling of hostilities and adoptability to change.

Meanwhile US can start gradual withdrawal of forces from Iraq to be stationed in Kuwait, Saudia and some on Iranian border crossings (by Iranian commander coordination).

Followed by no US interference in administrative or day to day running of Iraqi government (Except development and rebuilding monitoring).

The viable solution to have effective check on wrong doings is by exploiting the inbuilt opposition. One of the possibility is to grant amnesty to all Iraqis and stop doing de-Baath-ification.

Desolve existing government (Except President)form an interim (for 6 Months only) national government by inclusion of moderates from Ex-regime (50%) and balance by equal party representation(Sunnie, Shia, Kurd)

there are few factors to consider here.

1) Most of the government projects have administrative disbursements, which are not reportable under just expenditures. Such amounts range from 30 to 45%.

2) Lobbying or political party contributions are not regulated.Often such expenditures appear as palm greasing.

3) Installing counter corruption departments either meats crimnal opposition or adds on extra burdon of administrative expenditure.

Yea. maybe he will write another letter! These hearings were interesting a year ago, but they aren't producing any results.

What happened to Harriet Meyers? Wasn't she in contempt? She was subpoenaed, didn't show up, and nothing happened. Gee, as a citizen I don't think I am allowed to ignore a subpoena.
