The very promising follow on from Absolutely Fabulous, is it perfect, no, but this could have been a wonderfully camp romp, so which straight idiot at BBC commissioning didn't pick this up - Shame!!!

First shown on December 22nd 2000 on BBC1, so includes the very pretty Christmas idents for that year.

Enjoy!

  • I think "MIRRORBALL" is fantastic, i loved it, it was very funny and i can see it getting big as Absolutley Fabulous, i will be interested in seeing more. A very big thumbs up from me.xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • @pastel08 - As mentioned by CarlaG, that's highly unlikely as this is about 12 years ago, and was completely dropped by the BBC, I'd love to find out why it was never given a chance; I'm amazed Jen couldn't make them do it, maybe she didn't like it herself?? Good news though, as an Absolutely Fabulous film is in the pipeline, Jen's got to write it yet, but it's something to look forward to ;-)

  • @chillmax I think she sais that the characters are to similar to Ab Fab or that if she was writing for those people she may as well write the Abfab characters. Pretty sure it was her decision to go back to ABfab.

  • @MrJkhg1 - Good to know, although it makes you wonder why she would have done Mirrorball in the first place if that's how she felt ;-)

  • This show as not turned down at all. Jennifer Saunders wrote this after she finished "Absolutley Fabulous" in 1996 with the intent of starting a new series but found "Ab Fab" coming through. She ultimately decided that she had more ideas for "Absolutely Fabulous" and went back to writing that. Elements of mirrorball were retained, however - as Saffron became a playwright in series four and the character of Bryce appeared managing Gran and her friend Molly when they started working as extras.

  • Wow she can high kick well!!!

"Inhail, exhail. SPARKLE!!!!" I luv janes charicter!

  • Bonnie Langford looks alot better in this

  • Hah!! I forgot just how goddamn funny this show is. I also forgot that Bonnie Langford was in it too..

  • Yita aka Jane Horrocks is a hoot! "Daisy Duck in the usual manner...Skippings, spinnings dancings, and showings." And that Marlene Dietrich send up. She is brilliant.

  • I liked it when it first came out, and was looking forward to the series, but it just disappeared! How stupid can BBC get for goodness sake. Do you remember 'Let Them Eat Cake', IMHO, that series was hilarious, but a second series was not picked up. Wht the heck!

  • @chillmax The reason it wasn't picked up was because while writing it Jennifer Saunders was inspired to bring back Absolutely Fabulous, and so she did that instead.
