La Grand-Combe is a former coal mining town of the region of Cévennes, south of France. It used to be quite prosperous in the 19th century and first half of the 20th century but was brought to misery by the decline of coal mining.
The bosses there had a sort of moral vision of their industry and imposed a very strict moral and religious way of life to the minors.
The idea of that song came to me one day I was travelling in this area, and I saw an abandoned mine buiding on which somebody had written "talk about us" in hudge white letters. That sight had such a helpless feeling about it, that I promised myself to write a song to fulfill that request.
Hi there !
