I have not had WLS, Weight Loss Surgery.

When I reviewed this video, part of it sounds like I'm saying I had weightloss surgery. I was trying to say that I had considerred WLS, and rejected it, while others have had such serious procedures....

I found the name of the banned drug:
The drug is called DNP for Dinitrophenol.

Wikipedia has a listing for Dinitrophenol.

DNP appears to be implicated in the formation of cataracts. From what I have read, there are six kinds of DNP. Also, there is reasearch underway into other ways to decouple proteins, which is the mechanism used by DNP.

Given the 1 in 50 mortality rate (in 30 days) of Weightloss Surgery, I still feel DNP needs further study.

Questions:

Is the chance of cataract formation dosage related?
(There might be a low enough dosage that could induce fat loss without injury.)

Have all six forms of DNP been tested?
(One of the six forms might not carry the cataract risk.)

Who is doing the protein decoupling research? Are they well funded?

Also, I have not yet found a webpage with the original data from the prescription usage of DNP in the early 1930s.

An anonymous TY viewer sent the following:
"Watched your video about dinitrophenol, a drug that I've been personally researching for some time now. Very interesting that its made its way to youtube in the non-bodybuilding circle... I'm in a lot of bodybuilding communities, and in the bodybuilding circle -- I'm talking about deep circles, not your average wannabes on forums -- it's considered a very safe drug when used and deaths are incredibly rare. About 100,000 people took it in the 30s with about 3 deaths, all from misuse. Check out the papers on Cutting and Tainter about DNP. No effect on liver, kidneys, brain, nor cancer causing. There're even some pubmed studies to suggest that aids in the purging of free radicals.

What you said was right on the money. This is basically a cure for obesity that a select few know about (I am not one, but many friends are) but can never be used because of simple stupidity. Unfortunately it was banned by the FDA, and that was that. Amazing potential though since it has absolutely no effect on the body EXCEPT for rendering your ATP production inefficient and causing heat (which is easily thrown off by the body)"

Back to my commentary:
I gather from the internet that DNP was being sold on the internet from the UK, some years ago. A few deaths resulted. I have read that individuals vary in their body heating from a given dose of DNP. Thus, close monitoring may be an issue in addition to avoiding outright overdoses.

In conclusion, DNP seems dangerous. However, I used to be morbidly obese. I had a morbidly obese friend, younger than myself, die in his sleep. Again, also, WLS is deadly and has many possible complications. It is the danger of obesity itself that makes DNP a reasonable area of study.

Note: I have never used or even seen DNP.

  • it is now known that 2,4-dinitrophenol allows the protons to be carried across mitochondrial membranes bypassing the ATP synthase. If doctors would have known that in the 20's they would have never prescribed it as a diet pill.

  • This is over my head, but if one compares the danger implied by your post to the known mortality and complications rate of Weight Loss Surgery, might there be *some* merit?

( 2 in 50 die in the 1st month after surgery)

  • if it's an illegal drug, how did you get it

  • If you watched the video, you would know that I was reporting on info from the internet, and saying that the drug would be dangerous from an illegal source. I have never seen DNP.

  • The drug is called DNP for Dinitrophenol.

  • @HORNET600CRAIG all of those can be poisonous if too much is taken, same goes with DNP.

  • DNP is a poison, there are much safe Weight Loss drugs than this, ie, Tiromel Cytomel T3, Levotiron T4,Ephedrine, ECA, clenbuterol, hcg, hgh.

  • 1934 "the new reduction medicine kills a person here and there"

1936 it is reported that close to 100 people went blind because of this drug, or had cataracts removed from their eyes.

reported to change your ability to taste.

Lose weight the right way people . . .lets get serious. STOP EATING SO MUCH SHIT. get on a treadmill. Theres a strategy!

  • @niertap Is there any cases you know of where DNP won't work for someone for whatever reason?

  • @1aaronaaron1

The protons traveling across the mitochondrial membrane is the reason it works. Your body burns more calories to maintain the proton gradient. All the protons escaping over the membrane do is raise your body temperature.

The chemical isn't that toxic and is completely safe in moderation. Problems came when people took too much and it raised their body temp too high (hyperthermia). The raised body temp is the only risk when taking it.

  • 0:41 If you are not going to say something constructive then do not say it. Amphetamine is not a good weight loss product due to the fact that its action by weight loss is as an anorectagenic. It only has those negative side effects when you abuse the drug.

  • @DKsThun DNP question? What do you mean permanent?

  • the way everything is exploited these days, anything and everything is bad for you

  • its over my head to but the people who do understand it say it is a bad idea and I'm sure they considered that
