This video comes from the first lesson of my new oil painting course. I'm using water soluble oil paints to produce a small still life sketch, showing how to use the paint to create three different sorts of edges.

  • im used to watercolor, oil paintings are hard!! gosh oil pqints are so atubborn compared to my usuap :L

  • how come there's no shadow on the top of the cube?

  • @NissieTc Same!! It's interesting to experiment with a new medium though :) Good luck!

  • @deathiinabox thats a good idea :L ill have to buy some linseed oil first, gosh oil paint is so not my forte :L:L

  • @NissieTc My teacher told us to use linseed oil too. I think you just use it like you would use water. Like have it in a little container and dip your paintbrush in and then into the paint to thin it out and make painting a lot easier and your brush flow on your canvas more easily. Don't take my word for it though, I'm also a student lol.

  • how do you water down OIL paints?? im so confused..

  • my art teacher told me i can use white spirit or linseed oil to blend and add tone, but i have no idea how to use it :L

  • nice video, they arn't water based oils though.. they are water miscible oils.. meaning they clean up with water however they are not water based at all..

a lot of people are being misled into thinking they are a water based paint...

  • @jhaley12 you always block in your darks first, that's the first thing they teach you when you paint direct.. take a class and maybe you will learn something... if you listen he also explains that he does it to get an idea of the where values will be placed..
