  • There's not a hint of anthropomorphism here, and yet I have a sense that each animal recognizes at least the brute facts of their respective existences. It could be nothing more than an illusion created by the editing: That shot/reverse shot structure is the most obvious way to show people looking back and forth and communicating with one another, so it suggests the animals are doing something similar, despite their isolation from one another in the frame. But that's not all, is it?

  • This is one of my all time favorite scenes from any film. I wish that the human actors were this good... I dislike the zombie like performances in Bresson's films.
