Should boys and girls be taught separately? "Separate Classrooms" followed the story of one middle school's accidental separate education experiment.

Some say separating children by gender allows both boys and girls to learn more and that it's no different than separating children by age. Others say it's the equivalent of racial segregation and is therefore unconstitutional.

We visited the Virginia middle school to hear what student's had to say about separate classrooms and find out if the experiment worked.

  • i went to an all male private school...it was okay and fun...i do not say that girls are distracting, but i also have experience co-ed wherein guy and girls are both distracted by each other because of several reasons like relationships and basically the difference between men and women...the high school graduates from co-ed had larger numbers of teen pregnancies....when i graduated hs all male, there is no teen pregnancy, we were all virgins, i assume haha...but this is just my experience

  • i think it's silly that when everyone is telling you and proving to you that it's better for the kids some people let their ego and their own issues stand in the way of what is good for the kids. because it's "unfair". No one involved in the actual situation says it's unfair (except for that little romeo who will be alright, lol) but someone on the outside wants to prove something.

  • I rekon that the only way to survive a single sex school is that u have alot of good guy friends or someone that will always support u, no matter wat. Single sex schools doesnt solve anything, if u dont have many good people to turn to, it can get rough, and at times, the child will feel an unbalace socially, escpecially guys/girls that never hang around with the opposite sex, and btw sax, its the childs choice whether to succeed/excel, not due to sex factors, that to me is a load of crap

  • school is not workplace; school is different from workplace--------------------------but school is a bridge to workplace....=3=

  • I agree with this; I'd much prefer to learn in a single-sex environment. I find that almost all - but not all - boys want to do nothing but mess about in class, so the girls lose out. 'Tsucks.. :(

  • Heh, no doubt it's was their idea to pass this curse upon me and those that did not choose to be in this predicament. I wish you the best in the debate, research this subject well, and defeat those that keep this alive...

  • I have to debate against single sex education and it is quite ironic because I have to debate against two girls.

  • I go to an all guys school (with no girl contact at all!!)... and I'm only filled with rage and anger that grows with each day I spend there turing this former pacifist into a raging neanderthal, and not only that but my grades a decreasing dramatically! From A- to a solid C! Which makes this single sex education bull-shit!

  • Sex segregation is gender fascism, and is perpetrated by women. SCUM.
