"That Was Weird," was one of my first main projects. I started out wanting to explore the concept of decision making (or, perhaps, lack thereof)—having every option in laid out, and then the process of assessing each one. From there, I decided to use the example of deciding who to spend time with—be it friends, potential romantic interests etc, as a concept, and more specifically, choosing people from the shelf as a metaphor.
With this idea in mind, I started learning the techniques required to execute my idea. After a few experiments with various editing techniques, I decided on using the green screen. With the help of peers and adults around me, as well as a lot of tinkering by myself, I learned the limitations and possibilities that came with our school's green screen, thus also helping me mold the shape of my short.
What I ended up with was a music video that could be interpreted as a metaphor for decision making—the way thoughts interact with each other in the mind, the way the decision maker prods and ponders different options and scenarios to see how they play out, and even the way that choices are often fleeting—or it could simply be interpreted as a light hearted blip in reality.
