Got my hands on this nice VFD from some machine mounted on a board with a controller and after some messing with it (couldn't even find the datasheet lol) I finally managed to get it rigged up to the LPT port and wrote a small driver that makes it work it as clock and sends messages on audio volume change and WinAmp song selection.. Also a LED light added for night-time work ;)
@MrSomeone4321 this was a really old vcr, still used potentiometers to set time and dates for recording, the chip is definitely separate. do you need the right driver chip or can it be used with a different chip or maybe driven directly from the parallel port somehow? thanks.
by the way, your english is very good!

@noritakevfd you mean how to drive this display???
MrSomeone4321 8 months ago
@milkkart this displays don't have any datasheet. you must to find out pinnout yoursefl. Voltage on anode and grid is about 12-15VDC and voltage of the heater us about 4-6VAC. But careful! VFDs from VCR (expecialy new ones),and DVD Players have CIG (Chip In Glaas). That display you can trow away becouse is usless. Sorry for my bad english :(.
