Express style iron sights are a common feature on any large caliber safari rifle. Watch along as Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, demonstrates the process for installing an island style rear sight, along with a banded front sight. Using solder, a drill, and some elbow grease, this process is straight forward and relatively simple to perform.

do you have to drill and tap for the rear sight or is the solder enough to hold it? id like to put some sights on a rifle without drilling it.

@tibbarguy
I imagine that as long as the screws are flush so as not to catch on the bullet, there's more than enough barrel to continue putting spin on it. Notice how the front sight is only soldered on, not screwed.

But wouldn't drilling and tapping the sights create a hole through the barrel into the rifling?
