Think about it though, Aidid's people were killing UN troops left and right even before the black hawk down incident and in the end, they couldn't apprehend this culprit (Aidid). So yeah, he lost a lot of his militias but the man was a general and as long as his objectives were gained (not be caught and expel the foreign presence in Somalia), who cares about the pons he used :D

Aidid never had the support of all the Somali people. He started the civil war in the south and he was despised. Most Somalis gave up on the clan system so they were an easy prey for general Aidid and his clan. While Somalia was peaceful, he secretly ordered his clansmen to take off helicopter gunners and hide military transport trucks. He also ordered his clansmen to steal Toyota pick-up trucks and cannibalize them into technicals. He was a dirty traitor.

You see, militants can be hit in Pakistan because America has an allied government inside Pakistan. In Somalia, there is no functioning government so how long can America just hit foot targets inside that country? Where will it get any intel on these people? You'll always need a foot presence to finish the job. These religious militants know that they can easily die but as long as they spread their hateful ideology to the next generation...their goals will never die.
