  • These things are a real "blast" to shoot with 55-60 grains of real black! The loading lever is just part of the experience.

  • first time buyers of cap and ball, i would like to say, dont buy this one yet. it has some little problems that was typical with the originals. its all part of the experience and joy of shooting cap and ball. it is very heavy and awkward to handle. with medium or high powder loads the loading lever will slip off the prong and youll have to close it again. it wont do this with normal loads though. the wedge pin may also be tight, to tight to remove without tools. so, just a heads up. enjoy

  • @hibylittle8 The piece held up fine. You gotta figure replicas are made of modern, durable steels, unlike the iffy steels of years gone by. I did notice the loading lever would "pop" 'open' pretty consistantly....kinda annoying. The Dragoon has the locking lever, a logical improvement.

  • @RichardEllisxyz how'd the gun hold up to it lol

  • Cool! You got the target version of the New Army 1858. I have 1858 with the Beals configuration loading lever, it has the "web" filed down and it looks a lot like a Colt Single Action mated with a .460 S&W. Absolutely beautiful and extremely effective for defense.

  • I know this cap&ball very well.............A close buddy of mine had one (used) & we spent a week or so thrashing on it. We didn't use the grease your suppose to use to prevent a chain-fire, (stupid perhaps) Nor did we have a measuring device. We just filled it up"That's about right!...So we had chambers of all different levels of charge, the balls all seated at different height...we had so much powder everywhere, it would ignite & singe our hands from time to time.
