Le Fruit Triathlon: The Greenest and Toughest Triathlon
More than two hundred triathletes, aged from 6 to 66 years old, from 27 nationalities descended upon the shores of Mui Ne in Binh Thuan province on May 29 to swim across Suoi Nuoc Bay, bike through immense Saharan dunes, and run along the scenic Suoi Nuoc Beach. During the Le Fruit Triathlon, racers brought fierce determination and spectators en masse to the start line and left little environmental impact behind following the race.
Le Fruit Triathlon, named after the natural juice Le Fruit, has pledged to become the "Greenest Triathlon". Viet Adventure is implementing green race initiatives to minimize negative impacts on the province and set a standard for environmentally responsible mass participatory athletic events. This 'Go Green' initiative includes everything from eco-friendly registration (more than 95% registration received electronically) to waste management and beach cleaning. Viet Adventure started the Beach Cleaning Initiative in 2002 with the first edition of Le Fruit Triathlon to provide clean and safe beaches for the bare feet of the triathletes, and also for the bare feet of the next generation.
