The beginning of campaign was 1972. LTTE started when Appapillai Amirthalingam's Tamil United Liberation Front won 17 seats in the election of 1972. The elelction platform of TULF was to establish a Tamil homeland called Eelam over the blood of Sinhalese. When they failed to win the Eelam LTTE took over the baton from TULF. So the terrorism began way before 1983.
