@TheInspectorwho What we were seeing was the 10th doctor, who had not died yet. His face is not a fix point in time, so time where she sees him can be rewritten. She isn't surprised by his face, because its not new to him, because he hasn't died yet. He didn't have to die at that point in time when he changed from tennet to matt smith, but he did so her sonic in retrospec would have chaned, but we were viewing her from tennet's point of view so he had not died yet.

@atrios28 my apologies. I clearly read what I wanted to read with your original comment. I think the actress playing River song is good, I personally don't like all of the focus on her since season 5 and 6 started up. Tennant's companions always were a bit frustrating to people - I didn't like Rose, you didn't like Donna.
