@Failedtroothers Not necessarily. Most pit viper bites are survivable even without antivenin if you respond properly. And truth be told, the biggest threat with a bite from one of these snakes isn't the direct effect of the venom (snakes rarely inject enough to kill an adult human), but tissue necrosis and infection. That's what you need medical attention for with a snake bite. Otherwise the doctors usually just observe you and MAYBE give you antivenin.

"I have a snakebite kit and I know how to use it" !!!!!!!!!
You would have been in soooooo much pain as the venom dissolved your flesh that you wouldn't have been able to do a thing with your kit! Also, your kit would not have saved your flesh, or your life, especially on the Appalacian Trail!

Nice Timber but if god forbid you ever got nailed by one a "snakebite kit" is worthless for saving your life, car keys and a hospital+antivenom can.
