Ultimate Halloween Meal at Maido

For a spooky treat at Halloween or anytime, you can't beat Okonomiyaki -- variously described as Japanese pizza, pancake or crepe. The batter is prepared with chopped fresh cabbage egg, scallion and pickled ginger, and a choice of pork, shrimp or veggies, then grilled like a pancake.

I remember eating something like this when I was a kid! I used to be afraid of it too. the moving flakes are "Bonita flakes", basically seasoned tuna, dried, then thinly slices. actually taste good, if I have to compare it to something, I'd say bacon bits.

It's moving NOT because it's alive, but because it's so light and paper thin, the heat and steam from the pizza/pie thing makes it move.

I love adding bonita flakes in clam chowder!
