We know how to stop this!! Just call us!!!!

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB Fox 41) -- A suspected thief who was caught stealing a trailer last summer may have been at it for years. Several local police agencies have pending cases against the man, but some say he keeps getting off the hook.

The man has been charged with theft a few times, but most of those cases were dismissed.

"He's a thief," Michael Conner said bluntly. You could say Conner really doesn't like 26-year-old Gerard Ray.

He believes Ray stole his trailer worth $2,700 two years ago. Conner would park his trailer in his neighbor's backyard. After it was stolen, he realized the elementary school across the street had several surveillance cameras all around.

In the video you can see a Hummer pulling up with nothing attached. Moments later, "There he goes with my trailer attached," said Conner, watching the video.

Jeffersonville Police confirmed with WDRB that Ray drives a Hummer, because he once reported it stolen. Police say they found his Hummer in Sellersburg with a stolen trailer attached. WDRB's Rachel Collier went to his listed address. His grandmother, Patricia, answered. Collier asked if she was aware people were accusing her grandson Gerard Ray of stealing trailers. She said she didn't know anything about that.

Last June in Louisville, Ray's phone started ringing right in front of Louisville Metro Police, as they called a number linked to a stolen trailer Ray apparently posted on Craigslist. He was charged with receiving stolen property and convicted on a lesser charge. This spring, he pleaded guilty to theft in Clark County, but Conner's theft case was thrown out, he says because of a lack of evidence. "He was charged in my case, and it's been dismissed."

Indiana State Police have charges pending against Ray for a stolen trailer.

An attempted theft case in Clark County is pending. "I want this guy off the street," said Conner, "it's just infuriating to see this guy get away with it."

Ray was sentenced to one and a half years probation on the theft case he pleaded guilty to this spring in Clark County.
