Original Footage. People on the Powell River to Comox ferry said they saw the man jump from the upper deck. The crew was quickly in the water to attempt a rescue but the motor of the zodial died. They then had to put a second zodiak into the water to get to the man. Luckily there was an ambulance crew on the ferry that tended to the man when he was brought back to the ferry.

Some said that he was a homeless man that jumped but the man himself said he fell (likely to avoid charges). Police are investigating.

  • See people, they aren't just there to flip burgers and make sure the bathrooms are clean. In an emergency they are there to save your life.

  • @0ldtimeh0ckey Every member on board the ferries must undergo emergency response, security and other forms of training in order to keep everyone safe. It's why I have respect for them.

  • top notch

  • This was a nice rescue by bc ferries they got the guy out of the water really fast

  • Its amazing the flak the ferries take in the news because it makes "a good scoop." Very rarely do any of their taskings by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre ever get mentioned in the paper. Those people are there, willing to put their butts on the line in an emergency. Those ships run hard hours on them to get people from A to B. I laugh every time I hear some twit strike up "build a bridge!" The only place they could do that would be up near Campbell River. Great job Ferry workers! =)

  • @0ldtimeh0ckey yup, you're right. I hope the people that bitch and complain about how much ferry workers are paid watch this video. I've ridden the ferries all my life, and nothing but respect for these guys and girls. Great job.

  • Very good and quick, cudos to the crew!

Just one word of advice for the next time: Don't let the patient walk after immersion in water, hypthermia can kill.Do not move hm more than necessary and carry him. I know it's not always that easy, but letting em walk is a no-go. If you are unlucky they walk a few steps, collapse and are dead...

  • @Mantuna They hardly ever do. But when they do it`s frontpage news

  • when did that happened?? i thought things like that this never happend in powell river

  • There's a thing called a job, and then there is so much more we have within us -Altruism. Bittersweet: the poor guy saw no option in life -yet others risked themselves for him. Fabulous job by the B.C. Ferry guys...and the reality visuals set to this incredible song should remind us ALL of HOPE, when all else fails. Greatness is not always about monetary profits...well done! And to the guy who jumped - PEOPLE DO CARE.

  • that song is for homos.
