"Peace by Peace" YouTube Video Transcript
Travis (City Overlook at Chingiss Khaan Statue)
Ladies and gentlemen of the United Nations we know you're busy, so we'll make this short. We think it would be a really good idea if you could create a program similar to the Peace Corps which helps the world in developing friendship and world peace, one person at a time, one by one.
Todd (University Office)
One year ago, President Obama said that he wanted to "double the size of Peace Corps and work with the leaders of countries from around the world to build an international network of overseas volunteers so that we all might work together, side by side."
Elaine (University Classroom)
Hi! I like being in the Peace Corps because it is a grassroots organization to say it in the best sense of the word. The goals, the agenda, the feel of the whole organization is set by the people and its up to the Volunteer to make the difference and it's set by their goals and everything is done by the group of people who are living in the host country. So that's why I like Peace Corps and that's why I think it's so successful.
Alex (Outside of Mongolian Ger)
We would like to ask you, member states of the United Nations, to please build an international network of development volunteers dedicated to making our world's communities better. These volunteers would serve to fulfill the requested needs of individual communities while developing personal relationships and exchanging cultures.
The experiences of past and currently serving volunteers in both Peace Corps and other volunteer organizations show how this kind of development at the grassroots level leads to greater understanding between people.
The momentum created by those volunteers and the efforts of world leaders to promote peace and understanding should be increased and expanded to reach as many people as possible.
Together you could create the most incredible international effort to send caring, capable people of all ages, from all nations, to help those who need it most.
All Together (Inside Ger)
We think our President is ready, we think the American people are ready, and we think a lot of people in the world would like to take part in this project. So thank you very much, mash ich bayarlala ("Thank you very much" in Mongolian).

*Note: If our video is chosen by the UN as one of the Top 5 Finalists, we would love to send a friend to the United Nations on our behalf to take part in the 64th UN Day and UN Day Concert. Thank you.
(comment cont...) This is greatly enhanced when people not only get to know one another, but do so in a context of helping each other, and this is how a program like peace corps from the UN could go a long way in breaking barriers that are even now being strengthened due to a lack of understanding and trust everywhere.
Keep up the excellent work!

I think the video highlights what peace corps does and how peace can only be achieved through one on one relationships. It is this interaction that enables people from different cultures and sets of beliefs to see each other in light of who they really are and not how the media or a misguided leadership may portray their cultures or countries. When we see each other as individuals with the same essential goals and desires, we are able to see ourselves in others, and peace is then possible.
