@vvsignin1 I thought THREADS's portrayal of a post apocalyptic childhood ten years after WW3 watching WORDS AND PICTURES on an old Ferguson Videostar was far creepier than the scary Dalek music - now that W&P theme gives me the creeps as it reminds me of this. One wonders if there would be anyone around to sound a fallout warning given that the UK would have been obliterated in a massive attack - then again, you can hear the fallout going "Weddelwoddelweddelwoddel" of course!
@MIKON8ERISBACK Unlike the U.S. which has millions of square miles, the UK is an island with limited space. Additionally, they're a major strategic location for NATO and would be heavily targeted by strategic high-yield nuclear weapons. These warnings would be virtually useless as there would have been nothing left on that island after everything was said and done.
@vvsignin1 Threads, along with The Day After, released a year before were one of those powerful and compelling anti war movies exposing the true consequences of nuclear warfare, and how, in a way, there are no winners of war, regardless of who instigated.
@vvsignin1 These videos were never actually shown on TV. They were classified material for some time and were only meant to be shown on TV if a nuclear attack in the near future seemed likely. Just like they are today, they are scared to death of political incorrectness and civil unrest.
I cant remember why I decided to look for these vids one drunken night the somber tone at the end is well creepy! I went to the hach green secret nuclear bunker a couple of days later it was awsome and these vids were played on a loop in one of the rooms you could even buy a protect and survive booklet too!!
It would be shocking to start seeing these, uh, infomercials on television. I'm not sure what I would be more scared of...nuclear war or that creepy human figure in this segment.

@MIKON8ERISBACK Yea, I can imagine that these weren't shown on BBC. However, they were shown on Threads. They were creepy enough in that movie...
