the class prototype for the Independence-class littoral combat ship, will be the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the concept of independence. It is the design produced by the General Dynamics consortium for the Navy's littoral combat ship program, and competes with the Lockheed Martin-designed USS Freedom.

It is intended as a small assault transport that can take on various capabilities with the installation of mission modules. The ship is a trimaran design that can make more than 40 knots (74 km/h; 46 mph), and was delivered to the Navy at the end of 2009.

  • This is always the same shit.......This " WARSHIP" is absolut senceless.

  • Double yawn. in 1975 we launched the Pegasus hydrofoil, 48 knots, 76mm gun, torpedoes, etc.

  • @iThinkThereforeiCan all except an exocet

  • 40 knots? Jesus christ! I would expect a ship that was incredible at running away to of been made by the French.

  • @wolvervol True dat, at 40+ knots they could run away from pretty much anything!

  • @wolvervol LOL! America! FUCK YEAH!

  • whatever you wanna say I can tell ya that that thing is Waaaayyyy cooler than the destroyer I was on in 1980 ! LOL

  • @iThinkThereforeiCan Didn't hear about that "French Destroyer" in WWII. Really didn't hear much about the French anything in WWII. Only "French" I heard about was Normandy, after it was sucking the hind tit of Nazi Germany.

  • 40 knots...yawn. The French destroyer 'Terrible' did 45 knots in 1935...and it had some real guns...5 x 5.4", not a silly little 57mm popgun. At least mount this bad boy: watch?v=TJpqNFkd9gI Oto Melara Super Rapid 76mm (17 pounder instead of 6 pounder), fast forward to 2:37, it rips off 40 rounds in 20 seconds...680 lbs of ordnance instead of 480 from the popgun at twice the RPM.)

  • garbage
