This is from the last timex sponsered jazz show, at the lincoln centre new york 1972.
Gene played several more times with Benny in 1973, july 29th found them at carnegie hall where Gene spent his energy playing Sing sing sing, he just sat at the drums after while the rest of the band walked off stage, Gene's words.."shit im not going anywhere and they'll be coming back".
Gene also played saratoga springs in august 73, no attempt at s.s.s tho.
This is from NYC, Radio City Music Hall if I remember correctly, and it's a Louis Armstrong Memorial Concert from 1971.The BG quartett playes a couple of numbers and it was a small miracle Gene was onstage that day. Gene was dead sick already, I read somewhere he had to be carried on stage behind the drums since he couldn't walk very well that day, But then... May he rest in peace!
Are y ou sure this was 73? Gene went to the rhythm angels in October of 73. If it is correct....it's a tribute to his spirit indeed. John-Hans Melcher "TheQuietDrummer"

This is how musicans were then; played well and dressed in a polite and pleasing manner. Not like today.
