    ive never pruned a palm tree..more northern species.but there are some general things to remember when pruning.

    never take more than 1/3 the foliage of a tree...start by cleaning and pruning out deadwood and interference growth(branches that rub against each other or get in the way of healthier growth) prune little bit by little bit.. checking that sunlight will reach the leaves as you go.. walk around the tree often during this process to gauge the overall effect.
