Footage of Z's Mod of Super Mario 64, made with VL-Tone's "Toad's Tool 64" program. Features edited textures and level designs with new star goals and more.

This is where the videos of my mod begin! First of all, I'm no modding expert by any means, just having some fun with Toad's Tool here, so take it as you will.

Anyway, as you can tell, I've messed around with numerous things; objects moved, levels and stars redesigned somewhat, a few textures and Mario's colors changed, and some (intentionally) mixed up and sometimes out of place background music.

In most of my videos, there's some kind of popping noise that is quite annoying, as well as a tiny mouse pointer, if you can see it... I apologize for that, looks like some combination of Vista 64, VirtualDub, Fraps, and Project64 don't get along right in the sound department. Oh well. I'll try to make that go away in my future videos.

For now, this is a 7-part series of videos wherein I collect 8 stars (most from Whomp's Fortress, which is my most complete modded level), the Wing Cap (a little easier now huh?), and the first key from Bowser. When I make more progress on my mod, I might post more videos of other levels and stars.

If anyone wants this mod, I can't really distribute it, because in doing so I would have to redistribute the Super Mario 64 ROM file, which is not-that-legal. But I encourage you to go download a copy of VL-Tone's awesome Toad's Tool and make your own mod. It takes a little while to get the hang of things, but it's entirely possible to figure out, and it's a ton of fun once you do.

  • How do you edit the stars? Are they in textures?

  • Yeah, if I remember correctly, there's a yellowish texture somewhere in the ROM that is used for the stars; I just swapped it for a red one.

  • what part is the download link in?

  • submitting to your 1337 star collecting skillz, the door opens in fear ! XD

also you can transform your rominto a PPF patch if you want to give it, PPF is okay, its not a rom distribution

  • @ZRXP while exploring the textures I found some white and red 2D stars I wonder if they were in the beta!

  • you has a star! yay! open doors for great justice xD

  • You Gotta tell me how to do this stuuff

  • Whats with the farting sound in the back ground?

  • I Love how when you got the last star in

    the vid,

For some reason to me it felt kinda cool

you grab a star, spin around while falling and then...you show it off :D

  • its not a texture, you need to edit it with color codes or (in toads tool) going to thebottom right corner and do you see the redish colors? you make them whatever color you like. unfortunately, you cant make the hat different than the shirt :P

  • Do you know where the hat color texture is? (not the "M".)

  • How do you place a star so lets say i read a sign and a star comes from it? Cause iwanna make a star come out of the Eternal star in the castle courtyard
