This film is about the second-generation immigrants in Greece. Though born in Greece or having immigrated with their family at an early age, attended the Greek school and have been raised like every other Greek child, this social group is severely discriminated by the law. They are actually ghost Greek citizens not legally registered, and without the right to vote. After reaching the age of eighteen years old, the state asks obliges them to apply for a residence permit. By not submitting the required papers they are automatically considered illegal and logically are expected to move in their country of origin, a country that in most of the cases, they have never visited.
The given situation is almost unknown to the largest part of the Greek society while the second generation immigrants are daily struggling for their right to belong somewhere and live normally lead a normal life in the country.

  • Typing mistake I meant Native Americans.

And if you'd like, check on the web for "Jus sanguinis"

  • What you say it's called "Jus soli" (when you are born there you take the citizenship). In Greece (AND other countries) till now the law about citizenship is the "Jus sanguinis" (at least one of your parents has to be Greek). You are not authorised to change our laws.

Plus in USA they need "Jus soli" or else only Native Anmericans would be US citizens.

  • there are over 300.000 people born and raised in Greece and are still considered and treated like economic immigrants by the state. No matter how one's parents enter a country, legally or illegally, if one is born in the country automatically should qualify for the citizenship. this is how it works in civilized modern countries. This is how it works in EU. Even in USA with the strict migration laws, if you 're born there, no matter how your parents got in, you 're automatically a USA citizen!

  • If you enter in a country, any country, illegally you can't have the citizenship no matter what.
