Tulsa KTUL Channel 8 sign-off with the voice of Cy Tuma and Henry Mancini's "Dreamsville", February 18, 1979. Steve Smith of Seattle contributed the original tape this came from. Johnny "Star Wars" Williams is heard on piano. This is not the oldest sign-off in existence, but one of the nicest.

  • If you have clips of any other Tulsa TV stations signing off besides KTUL/KOED, I would appreciate it very much.

  • All that I have are out here. If I ever acquire any more, they will be, too.

  • You're welcome. I'll get going on your excellent suggestion.

  • This is one classy sign-off, much owed to Henry Mancini's music.

  • It's the evil Channel 8!!!

  • The national anthem that followed this sign-off back then was Ray Charles singing "America the Beautiful".

  • if you can i would like you to find the 2006 wicked weather roadshow commericals because I am in one of them Saying "Wicked"

  • Wow! Havent seen that tv code seal in a long time. Back then they were proud to display it, but it died out sometime after the early 80's. Now its all about the almighty dollar and sex and Immorality sells!

  • I was born in Tulsa in 63 and lived there until I was seven. I remember Cy Tuma doing the news on channel 8. I guess a lot of people didn't know he was in a wheel chair (Polio, I think) as they only ever saw him behind the anchor desk. I heard he had also been a country singer in the 40s or 50s.

  • Tulsa, OK, is amazing!!!! Do they get snow in the winter?

  • Agreed. :)

  • A reference to Weird Al's movie, "UHF", which was shot in Tulsa.

  • I remember this. I used to get KTUL on our cable TV. It was a different time. Stations actually signed off the air. On occasion I signed off a radio station in Arkansas City,Kansas.

  • thats old they dont do that any more
