Teyla is the unfriendliest horse I've ever had. We rescued her from a pretty bad situation, and she'd had a hard 9 years before she came to us, I think. She's a hell of a mountain horse. Steely, not afraid of anything, beautiful fast walk, lots of endurance, can haul game out of the mountains, solid, will go anywhere. Carries my kids with amazingly tender care. Just not warm and fuzzy. I love her. And I think in her own way, she loves us too. She's just fairly battle scarred.

  • she's very beautiful, i was wondering wat type of ranking r they in, like is toby the head stallion? but she looks very comfortable in her home, r u able to ride her? or was that another one

  • Thanks. We have 4 mares and 1 gelding (Toby, the draft). She bosses around everyone except Toby! I pony him from off of her sometimes. I ride her a lot. She's incredible in the mountains.

  • Hi Horsegoddess and gooselady,

Thanks for your nice comments. Yes, she was being mistreated when I got her. She's very aloof, but she's a wonderful mountain horse and can go all day long with a big fast walk up in the high country.

  • She's a cutie!

  • hahahaa exactly my appy does that i walk up to him and he walks away and puts his ears back. either it's the pony thing or appaloosa idk

  • She looks and acts just like my mare! My Appy will go any where you point her and do anything you ask of her but when she is turned out to be a horse...she acts the same way! I wouldn't trade her for the world!! We have been partners for 15 yrs now!

  • She seems to be still not trusting to any human, doesn't she;(?...

    Did you check her back?

smth really hurting disturbs her... Seems to be back, it's quite hollow and on walk some difficulties appear, but veeery slight ones....

  • Well good for you for saving her. Animals are very aware of that and I am sure she loves more than you could possibly know. :)

  • She's so pretty.

It's great that you rescuded her.

She probably just harbours some bad feelings after what she was through.

  • I have an Appaloosa mare that went through hell and abuse before she came to me. She cannot stand adults, but kids are fine. She loves my son and tolerates the rest of us. She can be warm and kind to my son, but the rest of us have to take what we can get. Got to love those scarred souls.

  • she´s so beautiful!

  • it looks like she's the domiannt mare.

  • She is an awesome horse. I would LOVE a horse like that. We're moving to Santa Fe this year. Let's go trail riding! My horses are sweet and nuzzly but worthless on the trail (they just havent had the chance). My bad. Where are you? It looks kind of like the Apache Ridge area where friends of ours live. Keep riding. Teylas great.
