Stanford Provost John Etchemendy attempts to define the essence and purpose of universities and the research, education, students, sports, and arts and culture embodied therewith. Stanford's mission statement promotes the creation, proliferation, and preservation of knowledge, but what is the importance of this in contemporary society?

  • @sonic9rg senSe

  • great vid!

  • In my opinion these two guys at the main table are acting like stage actors, playing to eachother. I dont sence any real honesty or depth in anything that comes out of their mouths. The third guy seemed interesting enough but by the time it got to him i found a Slavoj Zizek video (Continental Philosopher) to watch, who I find has great depth and I enjoy listening to him very much. If you like philosophy. Check him out.

  • From an undergrad: thank you.

  • Philosophy Talk is a great show. Couldn't listen to this week's show and found it on YouTube. Excellent debate.

  • Well done. Sure, there is a place for philosophy in the world and I hope that we dont forget where this title "Philosophy" comes from...love of wisdom.... therefore we should expect from those guys to share more then just only information and knowledge - but skillfully linked it with experience and then spread the wisdom ... truths - for the benefit of all, thanks and Good luck
