Chick Heileson has announced he's running for Congress. Campaigns are already beginning for next year, and Congressman Mike Simpson is one of those up for re-election.
"Hi I'm Chick Heileson, I'm running for Congress," said Chick Heileson.
He believes the government has strayed away from American principals.
"If you take an oath of office to obey the Constitution, that's where I start," explained Heileson.
Heileson will run as a Republican and believes a lot of people don't read the most important document in our history.
"It's the best document that we've had on this planet... The founders said we're going to make you free, and you be responsible for it," said Heileson.
Like when Heileson served in Vietnam.
"And read the Constitution, in their there are 26 numerated powers. No where in there does it say it's going to give us anything, except the opportunity," said Heileson.
I asked Heileson, "Why should Idaho vote for you?"
"Those that want the Constitution to be preserved, the way the founders had it, then that's what I'm here for," answered Heileson.
There will be an announcement party here at the Red Lion's Inn at noon.
Heileson is a Bonneville High graduate, and is a retired contractor living in Idaho Falls.
