Here we are in Mt. Vernon, as we take a ride along with the Fire Department of Mount Vernon. We leave from quarters on East 3rd. Street on a call of smoke in 4th floor apartment at 204 Union Street, which is just down from the fire house. The call ended up being a false alarm, with the smoke being a man who had been smoking a whole lot of marijuana. We are in Tower Ladder 1. We are joined at the scene by the deputy chief, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Rescue 1, and Tower Ladder 4, which is an old school Mack with an open rear cab, which might very well have been an old FDNY truck. I apologize for taking some time when getting out of the truck, but the door latch was a bit stuck. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on October 25th, 2009.

  • are the trucks pierces?

(besides the mack which was one of the ladders)

    nice response

  • No. I believe they are, for the most part, Seagraves. The Rescue is a Saulsbury.

  • Explain to me how this is a waste of tax dollars? Are you a Firefighter? It's a lot easier to have your resources on scene versus showing up with a fire condition and then calling for help. A fire doubles in size every 60-90 seconds.

  • @runegobigred5 dumbass if it is a working fire you do't want to wait 4-5 minutes for the 2nd due apparatus to arrive

  • I think it's nothing wrong about sending this number of trucks to a call of smoke. We respond to a call of smoke, or automatic fire alarm, normally with 5 vehicles: Chief, Command, 2 Engines and Aerial. When it is a big building with many people working or living there, 2 companies from the volunteer department would respond, too (that would make 2 more engines, Tanker, Hose Layer and 2 multi purpose vehicles)

  • I dont think that is an FDNY mack, I'm pretty sure all the macks in FDNY were tandems instead of single axles in the rear. Great video though

  • @runegobigred5 youre more worried about a few bucks, than the safety of the citizens and firefighters. there is a reason all those units respond. they each have a job that has to be done quickly if you are to stop the fire. think about this. a few minutes to respond, a few minutes to find out if its a fire, a few minutes for the extra rigs to arrive, and then another few for them to get set-up and in position. fire doubles in size every 30 seconds. why wait?

  • im from dobbs ferry and we're having problems trying to get a new tower to replace tower ladder 23 which is a 1992 mack. but the village doesnt want to get rid of it. i know how mount vernon must feel.

  • what city is that and nice deputy chief car

  • look a lot like the fdny's trucks

  • @FL92002 sorry i commented before looking at the whole video i see the mack have a Q siren

  • @FL92002 do any of these rigs have the Q siren?

  • The call ended up being a false alarm, with the smoke being a man who had been smoking a whole lot of marijuana......... haha hope this never happeds to me
