(I HAVE NOW RELOADED THIS FILM IN BETTER QUALITY!)
Old Mother Riley was a music hall character invented by comedian Arthur Lucan. From 1937 - 1952 he starred in 15 films in the UK, mostly with his real life wife Kitty McShane playing Old Mother Riley's daughter Kitty. The films had no sophistication at all, but were boisterous and full of slapstick humour, with Mother Riley usually caught between Kitty and her latest boyfriend, and some villain who Mother Riley invariably got the better of by the end of the film.
Most of the films still seem to be in circulation, but only six have had an official dvd release in the UK. The majority of the films were made by British National films and these are the ones that need a dvd release. TV screenings have been non-existent in recent years, although a few were shown on C4 in its early days and some were shown around 10 years ago on some of the early satellite and freeview channels. Come on distributors, why not rescue these films from oblivion and issue a proper box set of the missing titles!
Copyright on this film expired in the UK in 1993 under the Copyright Acts of 1911 and 1956. It is posted here for research purposes only.
I remember whating this on BBC 2 back in the 80's.
