Maryland is a growing presence in the biotechnology industry, attracting everyone from researchers who simply have an idea they believe in to Fortune 500 companies. Drawing these entrepreneurs to Maryland are a variety of factors including proximity to federally-funded labs, its system of 25 incubators, the Maryland Biotechnology Center and the Gov. Martin O'Malley's BIO2020 initiative. We talk to Rachel King, CEO Glycomimetics, and Nina Lamba, CEO CCL Biomedical, as well as Judith Britz, executive director Maryland Biotechnology Center, to find out how these and other factors combine to make Maryland an ideal state for biotechnology companies.
