Stop Offshore Oil Drilling

(sierraclub.org/oilspill) This terrible oil spill tragedy in the Gulf Coast is a sad reminder that oil is dirty, dangerous, and deadly. We need to address the needs of local residents and the environment, and then we need a commitment to end offshore oil drilling.

@YosupMofo OK with the retirement idea but every bit of work toward less usage is a helpful in weening off the oil crutch. We have had our infrastructure practically built on destroying the ability to to get from point A to point B safely -- possibly with some encouragement by oil and auto industry. Shame on those cities that don't provide mass transit. A bus is better than 35 or 50 cars.

If you don't like oil for whatever silly reasons (like save the planet global warming) then you are ordered to cease driving a car including electric cars because they get their power from fossil fuels, nuclear, or in rare cases, hydoelectric (gasp!) and we know how hydroelectric ruins the ecosystem. Cease riding the bus as well, and put your money where your mouth is. Put all your 401(k) retirement in green power ONLY; if you don't then you are a hypocrite!

We need to end offshore drilling...! The alternative...? Wind, Solar... No... because we can not store that energy. So the real alternative is to keep giving your money to people who hate you. Obviously, offshore drilling is a drop in the bucket, but it is a fairly big drop and should not be ignored. Oil companies will get the issues worked out because it is in their best interest. Stupid nonsense like saying we need to stop offshore drilling is counter productive and won't fix anything.

@TEUFELHuNDEN420 Sorry, Hemp still results is a carbon based fuel and still far less efficient than refined produced petroleum. It doesn't matter what "natural" base you use, even alcohol produces the same greenhouse gases to create the same kinetic energy. When you add the farming end of it, it takes away farland that will raise the cost of food. btw- drug use is the #1 excuse for violent crimes in the court, system, legal or otherwise. Until this changes they cannot legalize drugs.
