A nice sounding sequence in all 12 keys. This sequence starts with a C major chord, then moves the middle note down to make C major 7th, then the middle note moves down again to create C7 ("C dominant"). Finally the middle note moves down one last time and the root moves down a fifth (or up a fourth) to F. This sequence is then repeated in all twelve keys. At first I have just the right hand notes written in. You will eventually want to know the 3rds and 7ths of all your basic 7th chords. With practice this will give you a strong foundation. I repeat the whole exercise a second time with the notation written in (and note names written undert the staff for those of you who don't read music so well). For more chord practice or to learn my unique system for finding piano chords quickly, read my books "How to Speed Read Piano Chord Symbols" and "How to Play from a Fake Book without Gettin' the Blues" -- visit

UPDATE --
I redid this exercise with slower movement between the chords, so that it's easier to follow along. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x3rB89U4jM

  • what does 3 and 7 means and r

  • Some people think it means the third finger and the seventh finger, but that's not correct. It's the third of the chord, the seventh of the chord and the root of the chord. See my website for more info.

  • Yo Sesame this is the first I found like this. Looks useful.

  • These are fantastic thanks alot!

  • @giddeo Understood, he just needs to point that out or it could be misleading.

  • @M0rganstudios The bass note appears in the sheet music, its the continuous note he's hitting in the background

  • You should explain that you left out the bass notes. A and E does not mean F maj7 without the context of a bass note. It might just be a power chord.

  • how do I get to your web site?

  • there any video on chords in a key. i need to know more chords, keys can be transposed.
